Converging Lines

Lines are a very important part of photography. Horizontal lines portray a sense of motion into your images, where vertical and horizontal lines can show structure or divisions. Try to look for these types of lines when photographing subjects. I find its prevalent in just about any type of photography but is probably most obvious in Architectural photography.

Abandoned Subway Rochester - Photo by Josh Jones

In the above photo of the Abandoned Subway in Downtown Rochester, NY there are very strong diagonal lines present. These lines suck your eye down from the left of the image to the right, portraying a sense of motion. This is further complimented by the use of a wide angle lens to help provide more of a difference between near and far. Lines can be a powerful tool in your image making, make sure to pay attention to them!
