RIT: The Inside

A couple days ago I took some pictures at RIT. I like to document the most important aspects of my life as I go along. This way when I'm 65 and I am telling my grandkids about what life was like when I went to school, I can just show them. Anyways here's a couple more shots I took with my trusty 85mm f1.8.

Graffiti, Drugs, and Grime

A little while back I got a chance to go down to some of the darkest parts of Rochester, NY. My friend Mindy needed some pictures of Graffiti for a project she was doing, and I decided to help her out. Walking down the streets of Clinton Ave shortly after midnight, we were definitely out of our element. I shot quickly, making Mindy watch my back while I adjusted the tripod and settings. 

In the 30 minutes we were on location, we witnessed more arrests and crime than I've ever seen before. We got our pictures and got out, thankfully with all our body parts and camera equipment. Here are the results:

Record week on the blog

I just wanted to thank all the people that have been checking out my blog in the last week. We had a record 200+ visitors in the last week alone! We have also just about doubled the number of followers as well. I'm really glad to have all of you on board! I also want to say thanks to all my long time readers, I really appreciate you guys!

I love photography and I would probably do it even if no one looked at my work. That being said, its a great feeling to know people enjoy my work and like to keep up on my latest adventures! Lots coming soon, stay tuned!

RIT: The outside

I decided to bring my camera with me to school yesterday. It actually worked out great because we were doing some pretty boring presentations in my performance vehicles class so I snuck out and took a few pictures while everyone else was presenting (we already had our final for that class so who cares!). Here are a few of the ones I took outside!

New Blog Format Updates

Just a couple updates to the blog format. First, if you are blind (or using an RSS reader) I have updated the title picture. I also widened the page a bit to give some breathing room to my bigger picture sizes. Let me know if the page is too wide for your monitor (or do the economy a favor and go out and buy a modern monitor). I'll be posting more images from my climb of Mt. Marcy soon! Stay tuned!

Valentine Fishes

Valentine's day was a fun day! I took Debra to powder mills park where we visted the fish hatchery. I remember going there as a kid and looking at all the fish. I've never seen so many fish in a small space before! Here are some pictures from the day!

Fun with Food Coloring

I've experimented with some water shots in the past, but never with food coloring. I've seen some of these shots online before and I figured today would be a good time to try. After bribing my girlfriend with some Godiva Chocolate she decided to graciously help me out. 

These shots were created outside with thet help of the sun, a fast shutter speed, a sheet of paper for the background, and a clean glass of water. I set my camera on burst mode (6fps) and used manual focus to keep the food coloring in focus. I thought they turned out pretty cool! Enjoy!

Abandoned House

I love taking pictures of abandoned settings. There is just such a cool sense of mystery to places like that. Lots of history and stories to tell. Below is an image I took a few months ago of an abandoned house on the edge of a field. Creepy... perfect for Friday the 13th!

Photography in the olden days

Looking through my friend Rich's old camera collection really makes me glad to have my modern camera. I'm not sure I would have had the patience to haul these fragile boxes around, manually focusing every shot, and hoping I get it right later. I have a lot of respect for the photographers of the 50-60's, they had it tough. Anyways heres a few of my shots of his collection. Enjoy!

New Frames/Water Marks!

People that put big watermarks on images that aren't really that good really annoy me. It's like they think the internet is out to get them, just looking for the next blurry cat image to steal. I've always tried to keep mine small in the past because frankly, my work isn't good enough to warrant a huge watermark. I've been messing around with this new Photoscape program though and its got a really cool feature that allows you to apply a border to the image. Not only does this look awesome, now my images won't have any annoying letters blocking the subject. Sure people could just crop off my name, but if you are going to go to all that work just to have a 640x480 pixel image go right ahead! I'm not worried about people stealing my work. I just want the people that see my images to know where they can find more, or how to contact me.

Anyways here are some examples, the edges of the frames tend to blend in a bit here on the blog but on other sites it really makes the image pop! Any feedback is appreciated though (good or bad)! Click the comment link below... it won't bite :)

Abstract Auto

I love my 85mm f1.8 lens. I went out a few days ago and took some pretty abstract pictures of my car. The depth of field is amazing and makes shooting with this lens a lot of fun. I shot this almost wide open, hence the abstract, out of focus appearance. Hope you enjoy them!
