Spring has sprung!

I just love this time of the year. Winter has finally left, the flowers, colors, and textures all change from gray and dull to vibrant and fun. Here are a few spring pictures I took outside this weekend. Enjoy!

University of Rochester

This morning I started photography again after an almost two week break, which felt great. I decided to go shoot the U of R campus because last time I tried I was quickly hushed away by security. This time went much better. Here is one of my favorites so far... much more to come!

Taking a break from photography

Here's a tip that you probably don't see on many photography websites. Sometimes its good to take a break from photography. Although its good experience to shoot everyday, and will really enhance your skills, after shooting for a long time its good to take a break. Just like most things in life, after training for a long time, you need to take a break to recover and expand your skills in other areas. Ever heard the term "crosstraining"? Well that applies in photography as well.

As I write this I haven't touched my camera in well over a week. Webdesign, school, and tutorial videos have consumed my life. I can just hear my camera down there crying. But soon I will return to it, with new ideas, and a clear head.

Introducing my all new website

Well after weeks of tutorials, trial and error, blood, sweat, and a few tears, my new website is ready for its big debut. It's entirely new code from the ground up, and should work much better on a variety of browser and operating systems. You can check it out here:

Leading Lines

The use of leading lines is just one of those subliminal things that fits together with a lot of other aspects to make a great image. These lines can imply motion, stability, or simply entertain the eye. Here's one of my favorite "Leading Lines" images, taken at a local park.

Church of Christ Scientist

My jaw just about hit the floor the first time I walked into this church. A massive oval sanctuary that had a ceiling carved by angels. How could such a beautiful building be tucked away in one of the businesses streets in Rochester?

As I posted about earlier, last weekend I had a one in a life time chance to photograph the Church of Christ Scientist on East Ave downtown. Build in the early 1900's, normally this church is off limits to the general public. The dwindling congregation are the only ones allowed access. Since I'm in RIT's architectural photography class, this got me the ticket to enter. We were to shoot the church and learn how to photograph large interior, balancing color temperatures of lights, and various quantities of light. We had access to the church's lighting system and played around with many of the lights, turning them on and off at strategic times during our long exposures (known as painting with light). Enjoy the pictures!

New website coming soon!

I know I know the blog has been a little slow lately. I've been trying to cram as much xml, css, flash, SEO, and ftp coding as possible. Over the last week I've basically been redesigning my entire website from the ground up. Thanks to Professor Jorgensen at SUNY Albany I've gotten a lot of great tips and feedback. It's coming along great and I can't wait to show everyone. Here's a sneak preview of the new site!

Architectural Masterpeices

The other night I had an awesome chance to photograph one of the most beautiful buildings in Rochester. I'm still working on the images so here is a sneak preview to savor.

Temporary Issues...

Well I guess this is a good thing. My host for the past 6 months, Photobucket, seems to think I have overgrown their monthly bandwidth limit for this month. They offer up to 25GB of bandwidth for a month and it looks like I've already hit that.

According to Photobucket I have over 1200 images up on this blog and between them all I've had well over 200,000 hits in the past month alone! This is craziness! Flattering, but crazy! Well anyways, I'll have to figure out a new strategy for uploading images...

So sorry about the inconvenience, everything should be fixed soon.

Edit: I just signed up with a new host that I will be using from now on. The photos should now load noticeably faster as well! I relinked all the photos in my last post so they should be working. As for the others, they will be up whenever Photobucket flips over to a new month. I need some sleep, it's too late for this!

Danielle and Sean are married!

What an awesome wedding! It's the creative wedding locations like these than make shooting weddings so much fun. Danielle and Sean decided to have their ceremony and reception at the Memorial Art Gallery downtown. It was a beautiful setup with plenty of great architecture, gorgeous flowers, and a awesome band. Even better, the people were a ton of fun! Full of energy and love. Congrats guys! Enjoy the pictures!
