Star Trails

Well its 4am now and I can't sleep at all... so what did I do? Wander outside and set up my camera and tripod. I love seeing all those star trail photos so I figured that tonight (or this morning?) would be a good time to try.

So here I am at 3:30am in my slippers and bathrobe, outside taking pictures. I'm glad no one saw me because I'm sure I would have been reported for "suspicious activities."  Anyways I set up my camera on bulb setting, f/10, and went back indoors to warm up. I came back almost 8 minutes later to this picture.

Not too bad! So I set the camera back up in another spot and tried again! This time I promised myself I would be a bit more patient...

Pretty cool if you ask me! Because the earth is rotating and the stars stay in the same position, over the course of time it looks to us like the stars are moving! Anyways enough astrology for tonight, I'm going back to bed!

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog. That is a cool idea. Hey, do you like your 1.8 50mm? Do you have the 1.4? Do you wish you did? Great idea. I may have to try it.

  2. Chris, thanks for writing! I love my 50mm f1.8, in my opinion its not really worth triple the cost for an extra half of a stop, f1.8 gives such shallow DOF that anything less would only be usable in a few situations
